How-to guide for patient engagement
Our Merlin Williams collaborated in a multi-stakeholder PFMD working group on patient engagement in early research. The working group developed a ‘how-to’ guide to facilitate patient engagement in early medicine development, as currently there is limited guidance available. It has been released during a recorded conference session in the DIA annual meeting.
How-to guide for patient engagement in the early discovery and preclinical phases
This guide is part of a series of Patient Focused Medicines Development (PFMD) How-to guides that have been co-created in a multi-stakeholder environment built with the Patient Engagement Quality Guidance as a starting point. All How-to’s are connected and provide a full set of instructions on how to involve patients across the research, development, and delivery of medicines.
The How-to guide was co-developed with a large community of stakeholders (more than 45 individuals from 36 organizations), representing patient organizations, pharmaceutical industry, academics, researchers and external experts. It has been released during a recorded session in the DIA annual meeting which you can view here: https://sched.co/hCjR

About this program
Patient Focused Medicines Development (PFMD) aims to transform the way in which we understand, engage, and partner with patients globally in the design and development of research and medicines by focusing on unmet patient needs. We are bringing together and synergizing disparate but complementary efforts that integrate the voice of the PATIENT across the lifecycle of medicine. PFMD was established in October 2015 as an open, independent global coalition of health stakeholders. More information: https://patientfocusedmedicine.org/
